Welcome to the Eagle Country!

Coming Back to School in the Fall 2020

There is much uncertainty about returning to school in the fall at this time.  But we know school will continue for our students and families in a new way.  On May 12, Dr. Andrus shared with the Governing Board a presentation with our initial questions and assumptions.  This is not a plan, but considerations that need to be worked out.

The District is working with the Imperial County Public Health Department, the Imperial County Office of Education and other districts on our Road to Recovery.  We know the school year will be different, but together we can keep our students on the path to success.  Check back here in the weeks and months ahead to see our progress and learn the next steps for students and families.

All District Office and Schools Closed to the Public Beginning March 20, 2020

In accordance the Governor Newsom’s Stay Home Order issued on March 19, 2020 (N-33-20), the Central Union High School District and all its schools and office are closed to the public effective March 20, 2020.  Only essential employees are working on site to ensure the delivery of essential services.  Many other employees are working remotely.

Announcements

On behalf of all of us at Southwest we thank you for visiting our school website and I encourage you to check back often for updates about our various school events.

The upcoming school year promises to be the best ever as our students strive to achieve both academic and extracurricular goals. Our students shined this past year in a variety of academic areas and overall attention to academic success is evident everywhere on campus from the classroom to the athletic fields. One key to this achievement is the involvement of SHS families with our web based online access to student progress. Parents and students have found the Aeries Parent/Student Portal a great resource that gives immediate access to grades and attendance issues. If you are new to Southwest High School please stop by the office for information on signing up for this resource.

Southwest High School has a number of extra curricular programs that many of our students participate in. These events are open to the community and everyone is invited to attend. Students involved in sports activities have work hard all year improving their athletic skills which we hope you will witness for yourself when you visit campus to take in one of our many sports programs calendared this coming year. Our performance groups, known for producing great shows,  promise to be better than ever with talent that exceeds what one would expect from a school production. We hope to see your family in the audience at one of our shows soon!

Southwest High School is a success because of the support we receive from our community. If you are new to Southwest or have questions about our programs, please stop by. Our doors are always open to your questions and concerns.

About us...

At Southwest High School faculty and staff work diligently to meet the needs of all students by continually evaluating programs and curriculum while supporting the concept that there are many pathways to post graduation success. In addition to our core curriculum that supports the college bound student, we have a number of Career Technical Education courses that build foundational skills in a number of career areas. We are proud to say that a number of our CTE students have earned scholarships and secured jobs based on their experience at SHS. In addition to classes SHS offers a number of extra curricular clubs, activities, and sports programs for students. We encourage you to visit our school website to learn more about us.

Class of 2020 Graduation

All CUHSD schools are planning for virtual graduation ceremonies to be broadcast June 2, 2020 at 6:00 PM.  A link to each ceremony will be provided here.  All graduates will be recognized.  This is a complete ceremony with speeches, names read, photos, music, videos and the turning of the tassel. Please watch and participate at home with your family. Check back for updates and the links.

The Graduation Ceremony survey is closed and the results are 64% of Graduates and Parents want a live in person ceremony in the Fall.  Schools will consult with families and graduates to plan a tentative date for Fall Ceremonies.  These ceremonies will include students seated on the field or in the theater, crossing the stage, photos and names read aloud.  They may also include fireworks.

Many families and parents are organizing local events such as parades around town or at the shopping mall.  The District, nor its schools, are sponsoring or organizing the events.  We encourage all participants to be safe, follow social distancing guidelines and obey all traffic laws.

There is great interest in planning Class Reunion events next year.  Class of 2020 Alumni and their families can plan a Senior Picnic, Dance and more.  Your school will assist in the planing for those events.  Contact your class advisor if you would like to help.
