Southwest High School Library Policies

SHS active students are limited to borrowing two or fewer books at one time.

  • Books are loaned for a period of three weeks. The due date is stamped on a card in the pocket, inside the front cover of the book.
  • Borrowed books may be returned before the loan period ends.
  • Books returned after the end of the loan period will have accumulated an overdue fine. An overdue fine is charged for books returned after the due date at the rate of $.10 cents per overdue book each day the books are not returned.
  • Books more than 99 days overdue will be charged a $10.00 late fee or the cost of a full replacement if the book was lost.
  • Students with library fines may not borrow additional books until the fines are settled with the ASB office; students must bring the payment receipt to the library to clear the fine.
  • Library books may be renewed if no hold or request has been placed on the books by another borrower. Renewals are provided at the library’s circulation desk for an additional three week loan period. Any renewed book has a maximum loan period of six weeks.
  • If a book is loaned to another student, a hold request may be placed on the book at the library circulation desk to allow the books to be returned and held for pick up by the student placing the hold to check out next.
  • Students are encouraged to closely examine a book they wish to borrow, prior to check out, for damage from previous borrowers. Any damage should all be shown to the library staff at the time of check out to avoid incurring damage charges at the time of return.
